Who am I, and what is my passion?

Laurie Gagan, Lucky2BeMe Founder

I grew up in a small town in Indiana. My mother was born and raised in Hawaii and my dad was from the small steel mill town of East Chicago, Indiana. I have 3 brothers who I love very much. When I was younger, my dad actually treated me like one of the boys, even going so far as to take me to the barber with the boys for my haircuts.

As a kid, we didn’t have a lot, but whenever my parents would buy a gift for one of us, they would buy a gift for all of us. They taught me what kindness was all about. My mom was a school teacher who worked part-time and raised 4 kids, and they both worked hard to provide us with what they could.

In the same way that my parents always provided for my brothers and I, when I was growing up, I knew I wanted to make the same impact in someone else’s life. My dream is to change even one person’s life with a small act of kindness but I didn’t know quite yet what it would be.

Fast forward 20 years when I became intrigued with health, nutrition and fitness and continued working in the fitness field part-time with a full-time position as a certified systems engineer. Additionally, I started working with the Boys and Girls Club mentoring high school students on college applications and scholarships.

Jump ahead another 10 years, when I studied to become a Certified Health and Nutrition Coach with The Institute for Integrative Nutrition, the world’s largest nutrition school. This is where I fell in love with Primary foods. Primary Foods are the foods you don’t put on your plate, such as Exercise, Spirituality, Career, and Relationships.

It was during this time that I formed a 501c3 called Lucky2BeMe.  Fast forward to 2023, Lucky2BeMe is now a private foundation.

Since graduating from IIN and finding my passion in wellness, I continued on my journey to become a Certified Brain Health Coach with Dr. Amen’s certification program. Dr. Amen is one of the world’s renowned psychiatrists who specializes in behavioral disorders like ADD, addiction, obesity, and other brain disorders.

I’ve found that my passion not only leads me to health and wellness coaching, but health and wellness coaching to develop better brain habits. My journey has led me to combine my health passions with my love of helping and caring for others. There are many young adults out there who are dismissed because someone has tagged them with having an unhealthy lifestyle, when in fact it may be something as simple as an imbalance in one of their Primary Foods.
